They are essential for providing access, flexibility, and security for various aircraft applications. They consist of two or more leaves that are joined by a pin or a rod. Depending on the type and function of the hinge, they can have different features and benefits, such as:
- Single acting or double acting: Single acting hinges allow the opening to rotate in one direction only, while double acting hinges allow the opening to rotate in both directions.
- Flush or protruding: Flush hinges have a flat shape and do not protrude from the surface of the opening when closed, while protruding hinges have a curved or angled shape and extend beyond the surface of the opening when closed.
- Quick release or fixed: Quick release hinges have a mechanism that allows the opening to be detached from the hinge without removing the pin or rod, while fixed hinges require the pin or rod to be removed to detach the opening from the hinge.
